Avoiding WALL-E’s World
Trash. As of 1999, each person produced approximately 4.6 pounds of it per day — nearly a ton per year (source). And, this is a trend that has been on an increase over the past several decades! What can kids do to ensure we don’t end up in a dystopia like that from WALL-E?

During Environmental Science camp, Little Forest Playschool kids decided to find out. Campers learned how they can reuse common household items, how solar energy works, and how recycling now plays a vital role in lowering that pounds-per-person number into one more manageable. One highlight of the week was a visit to Los Alamos County’s Transfer Center, where a county official gave an up-close look at how we manage our trash and recycling locally.
